Or “There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.”  This software is NOT free.  It is made available on a try-before-you-buy basis, under the shareware system.  If you use it, please send the registration price to one of the addresses above (e-mail registrations accepted if paying by credit card).  The prices of my various shareware products are as follows:

All of my prices include international airmail and all other costs.

Each person who registers in full will receive a personalised Registration Licence Certificate via e-mail or airmail, and will be entitled to upgrade to future versions of that software at no further cost; I don’t charge an upgrade fee, even if the price has gone up since the current pricing when you registered.  Registered Users are also entitled to free support via e-mail or airmail.  I will answer any questions you might have personally.

Note: Registrations must be in the name of an individual, and allow one copy of the application(s) to be used.  Companies or organisations that wish to make the software available on a server or similar service must obtain a site licence.  A site licence costs 10 times the single-user licence, and allows an unlimited number of users within the same company or organisation.  Purchasing via invoice is available.  Please contact Dejal Userware if you have any queries.

You will notice that I have included a registration reminder in the application.  I’m being friendly about it: just hit Return and it won’t bother you.  However, to avoid having the dialog appear each time, you will need to register.  The Licence Certificate that all Registered Users receive includes a Registration Code for each registered application.  When you get your Registration Code, enter the information into the dialog you get when you click the “Personalise…” button in the “Register…” (or registration reminder) dialog.  I was somewhat hesitant about including this reminder dialog in the application, but since the only people it affects long term are dishonest ones, it is worth it.

Remember: the shareware system only works if everyone plays their part.  Not paying for shareware products not only hurts the authors, it ultimately hurts you, the users, if developers give up on distributing high quality software through the shareware system.  Paying for shareware is not charity, it is your legal obligation if you continue to use the software after a reasonable (i.e. 15 – 30 day) trial period.  Not paying is software piracy, i.e. theft.  Of course, pragmatically speaking you’ll get more than your money’s worth.

I even sometimes send a thank-you note to freeware authors. I do it because it makes ME feel good. Not paying is action from the belief in scarcity, a self-reinforcing and sad way of thinking/acting. Mailing a check strengthens the opposite attitudes, and therein lies the benefit to me.”

———  Registration Form  ———

I have an application called Dejal Register, similar to the one available from Kagi Shareware (but better <grin>), which you should have received with this product, that provides a friendly user-interface and assists the registration process.  It will allow you to easily choose which applications to register and select sound disks from a list, among other benefits.  It can print your registration details, or save or copy them for e-mailing — it will even encrypt e-mail messages, to protect your credit card details from interception.  You can launch the Dejal Register application from the “Register…” dialog, or directly from the Finder.  If you don’t have it, you can download a copy from my web site.

If you prefer, you can use the “Print Reg. Form…” command from the File menu in most of my applications to print a registration form with blanks you can fill out.  Or you can simply jot down your name, address, an e-mail address where you can be contacted, the name(s) of the product(s) you wish to order and where you got the software from, on a scrap of paper and include it with your money or credit card details.  Please make out cheques etc to “Dejal Userware.”

Finally, you can also register online via my web pages; I currently have three order forms there: a short “Express” one for quick orders, a longer full form with the full range of options, and a text-based order form for browsers that can’t handle forms.

All information you provide will remain strictly confidential, though I may include any nice comments you make about my software in the documentation, unless you specify otherwise.


———  Dejal Userware CD-ROM  ———

The following additional options are available.  All prices are in US$ (as an internationally recognised and exchangeable currency) for people outside New Zealand, or NZ$ for New Zealand destinations.

• Receive a copy of the Dejal Userware CD-ROM: it contains all of my publicly released software to date plus the entire Dejal Sound Library, which contains thousands of sounds taking over 400Mb!  $65.

• Register for the Dejal Sound Utilities CD-ROM bundle: see below for details.  $105.

• Register for the SuperBundle, which includes a copy of the Dejal Userware CD-ROM plus registrations for all currently released shareware and freeware from Dejal Userware.  $150.

• You can order some floppy disks from my Sound Library; the list of available disks is on my web site, or you can use the Dejal Register application to easily choose sound disks.  (Note: this option may be phased out in the future, so please e-mail me to confirm that it is still available before ordering.)

• I spend a fair amount of time writing and supporting my shareware, donationware and freeware products.  I would like to be able to afford to spend more of my time doing this.  If you can spare a little more, you might like to make a donation to help me justify the time I spend on my shareware efforts.  I don’t offer anything in return for this, other than the knowledge that you are helping a struggling author to get ahead, or at least justify the time I put in. ———  Discounts & Payment Methods  ———

I am currently prepared to offer a 5% discount on all of the above prices if you are paying in cash.

For small amounts in particular, I really would prefer cash, as banking foreign cheques takes a long time.

All prices are quoted in US dollars, since it is an internationally convertible currency.  Note, though, that I can accept any major currency.  Thus far, I have successfully banked US dollars, Canadian dollars, UK pounds, Australian dollars, Japanese Yen, German Deutschmarks, French Francs, Swiss Francs, Netherlands guilder, Swedish kronor, and of course New Zealand dollars, plus others I forget now.

I can accept cash and cheques (or “checks” to Americans), international money orders, and VISA, MasterCard, Bankcard, Diners Club, American Express and JCB credit cards.  If you request, I will issue you a receipt together with your Registration Licence Certificate and disks.  For large orders via cheque, I will wait until the cheque has cleared (10 working days) before sending the order — I get charged a large fee if the cheque bounces, which I will have to pass on to you.

If you pay by credit card, note that I have to charge your card in NZ currency, so the amount that will appear on your statement might be a few dollars off the stated price, due to exchange rate fluctuations.


———  Queries & Support  ———

I strongly believe in communicating with my customers.  You may have found, as I have, that many shareware authors totally ignore their customers — if you write to them with a suggestion or question, they never respond.  Not me.  If you contact me, I will respond.  I enjoy getting mail, especially if it has the word “Registration” on it. <grin>   Do provide an e-mail address if possible, though.

Any queries you might have, support questions (for Registered Users only), or notification of bugs should be made via one of the addresses given at the start of this document (preferably Internet e-mail, if possible).

A note about the e-mail addresses: the <[e-mail]> address should always be valid, even if I move service providers in the future, so please use that address.  But just in case the service provider fails, I’ve provided some alternative addresses.  The same with the web pages:  try the www.dejal.co.nz one first, then one of the mirrors if you experience problems.  Please do let me know of any problems, and I’m always keen to receive feedback on my site.

———  Distribution  ———

You are welcome and encouraged to give this software away to your friends, user group, or anyone at all for that matter, provided that it is unmodified and you only distribute it in the original archive file as I release it.  Do NOT distribute the application without the documentation!!  You may not charge for the software, except a nominal copying fee.

Commercial software distributors have my permission to include any of my shareware or freeware in their collections, provided that: (1) they tell me that they intend to do so beforehand, (2) they keep the documentation with the programs, unmodified, (3) they only include the latest versions, and (4) they send me a complementary copy of the disc and/or publication when it is released.

The Dejal Userware distribution disk always contains the latest versions of all my software.  Alternatively, you can ftp them from my anonymous ftp site on  ftp.dejal.co.nz, from my <http://www.dejal.co.nz/> web pages, or from sumex-aim and its mirror sites on the Internet, though my ftp site has the advantage of having all my software in the one directory, and you know they are the latest versions.  You can probably also download my products from CompuServe, AOL and Niftyserve, thanks to some kind Registered Users on those services, or on BBS-in-a-BOX and other CD-ROMs, and many other sources.
